I Miss You Old Man

September 15, 2015 — 1 Comment

grandpa-eIt’s been seven years since you left us and not a day goes by that I am not reminded of you in many simple ways.

Whether it be an old man in a neon knit hat …or…

Those old Lincoln Town Cars you so loved to drive …or…

A seat of a car covered with newspapers – you swore it was because it was cold
but I think it was because the older you got the shorter you became and you
needed them to see over the hood …or…

Beer in a styrofoam cup that you nursed for hours…
“Can you put a couple of ice cubes in that?” …or…

Long sticks of pepperoni that you used to bring to our house …or…

Scrambled eggs made with pepperoni – just like you used to make me that one summer …or…

Shots of Sambuca…warm please not chilled …or…

A new song – Shut up and Dance – only you could get away with wearing that shirt …or…

How your words & your wisdom…”Go slow”, “Everything in moderation”
…are now mine and I am faithfully passing them on to my own …or…

A found penny…a reminder that you are not far …or…

Today – September 15, 2015 – today would have been your 100th birthday.

Every day – in many simple ways – you continue to be part of my life.

I love and miss you old man.  Happy Birthday Grandpa E!

  1. He really didn’t realise what an impact he made on our lives. Our family values are based on his. And in the society we live in today, I’m glad we have those to fall back on! Tributes such as yours really says it all.
